Iceland is with no doubt a paradise for photographers. It offers a great variety of jaw-dropping and dramatic landscapes, waterfalls, seascapes, lakes, rivers, northern lights and many more. Especially in autumn the weather and light conditions are perfect for photography as the sun is getting lower giving a beautiful light and very long golden hours. The main focus of the tour is on landscape and nature photography. We will stand up early and stay up late to to shoot during sunrise and sunset and to hunt the Northern Lights. This photo tour will bring you to the most beautiful places in south and west Iceland in a small group of like-minded photographers guided by the Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year!

Day 1

Arrival – Reykjavik
Hallgrimmskirjka
Bloody Sunrise in Reykjavík

You will be privately picked up at the international airport in Keflavík and transferred to your comfortable hotel in central Reykjavík. Your tour guide will meet you there and go out with you for a Welcome Dinner were you can get to know each other. You will also get further informations for the following days on our exciting tour.

Day 2

Hraunfossar, Kirkjufell
Colors of Autumn
Expect the Unexpected

We start the tour in the morning with our comfortable bus and drive from Reykjavik up to the Hraunfossar waterfalls, a beautiful and unusual natural phenomenon. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava that runs in small falls and rapids into the Hvítá River. On our way to Snæfellsnes we will stop at Deildartunguhver hot spring. The spring can be seen from miles around as it blows steam up into the air from the constant bubbling of hot water rising to the surface. In the evening we will stop at Kirkjufell, one of the most beautiful mountains of Iceland. If we are lucky, the Northern Lights may light us the way.

Overnight: Grundarfjörður

Day 3

Snæfellsnes
Lóndrangar
White Sand Beach at Snæfellsnes

We will spend the following 1 ½ days on the Snæfellsnes peninsula to fully experience and enjoy all the beautiful locations it offers. This peninsula is about 90km long and known for it´s diverse landscape and magical beauty with the glacier towering over the National Park at the far end. Snæfellsnes offers a huge range of mountains, black and light sand beaches, craters, lava fields, fjords, fishing villages and cliffs with rich birdlife.

Overnight: Grundarfjörður

Day 4

Snæfellsnes – Þingvellir – Secret Lagoon
The Lighthouse
Djúpalón

We still have enough time to visit all locations on Snæfellsnes we haven’t seen the days before until we have all shots in camera. In the afternoon we head to the famous Golden Circle and discover the Þingvellir National Park. The area is part of a fissure zone running through Iceland, being situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It is a magnificent showcase with all its faults and fissures and the beautiful mountains around it. In the evening we can relax our bodies in the hot water of the Secret Lagoon and talk about our impressions from the previous days.

Overnight: Flúðir

Day 5

Golden Circle – Waterfalls – Vik
Geysir from Above
Geysir

Today we continue the Golden Circle and visit the Geysir hot spring area as well as the mighty Gullfoss waterfall. Afterwards it’s time to drive on to the magnificent south coast. On our way we will stop at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, two spectacular waterfalls. You can walk behind Seljalandsfoss to get some nice shots from there and Skógafoss is like the queen among the Icelandic waterfalls with a great style – perfect for awesome shots! In the evening we will drive to Vík and stop at Dyrhólaey for a sunset shooting.

Overnight: Vík

Reynisfjara Beach – Dyrhólaey
Rising Sun over Reynisdrangar
Dýrhólaey

We will spend another day in the area of Vík to discover the black sand beach at Vík with a great view to Reynisdrangar, the basalt caves of Reynisfjara and we drive again to Dyrhólaey since there are still some places we haven’t seen the day before.

Day 7

Fjarðarárgljúfur – Skaftafell

Fjaðrárgljúfur
Incessant

Today we will reach the Vatnajökull glacier and all it’s natural wonders. But first we will start the day with a refreshing walk at Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon with breathtaking views down into one of the most beautiful canyons of the world. At a short stop at Dverghamrar we explore two large and striking columnar basalt rock formations, topped with cube-jointed basalt before we continue to the biggest glacier of Europe – the mighty Vatnajökull. Prepare all your memory cards you have – you will need them. Photo subjects as far as your camera can see, in every season, weather and time of day. We will spend the rest of the day at the National Park to see the basalt formation surrounded waterfall Svartifoss and to experience the glacier very close.

Overnight: 30min from Glacier Lagoon

Day 8

Vatnajökull Glacier
Lagoon at Sunset
Svínafellsjökull

The Glacial Lagoon Jökulsárlón is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in Iceland. Therefore we will spend a good amount of time photographing the lagoon and the nearby beach today. Additionally we will also drive to the less busy iceberg lagoon Fjallsárlón.

Day 9

Vatnajökull Glacier – Vestrahorn
